Adobe Partnership Could Be a Game Changer for Microsoft’s Surface Pro 3

Microsoft’s problem with mobile has largely been a software one. As the company has learned, it’s not enough to make powerful tablets or phones if the software isn’t there to support it.
But Adobe might be able to help.

In Keynote presentation at Adobe’s Max conference, that it was clear the two companies have a closer partnership than ever, which may signal big changes for Microsoft’s Surface platform.
That the two would want to work together closely is not a surprise. Microsoft’s Surface Pro 3 has much more advanced software capabilities than iPads another tablets — ideal for resource hungry applications like Photoshop and Illustrator.

On the software side, Adobe rolled out a new version of Illustrator optimized for the Surface Pro 3. “This touch workspace lets designers create on the go what they could once only accomplish sitting at their studio workbench before,This new workspace exposes the core tools and controls for drawing and editing, making it super simple to start creating with pen and touch.”

The two companies also showed off Project Animal, a new animation app that has Kinect-like face and speech recognition and gesture tracking capabilities. Adobe executives hinted that users can expect more application software like Animal in the future.

Adobe also previewed a new touch workspace in Photoshop on the Surface Pro 3, nicknamed “Playground.” Playground has all the power of Photoshop on the desktop, says Adobe, but a completely redesigned, touch-enabled, user interface.

One Playground feature, Layer Inspector, allows users to navigate between layers by swiping across them on their screen. The layers can also be picked up and rearranged solely with touch gestures.

“The thing when we created Surface Pro 3 was to get touch and keyboard and mouse to be seamless and natural as a way to enhance productivity,” Nadella said during the demo.

It’s not completely clear what the partnership between the two companies means for now— Nadella described it as having “new energy,” but didn’t elaborate on specifics. And Adobe is by no means shifting away from Apple (many of Adobe’s mobile apps are still iOS only.) But both CEOs made it clear they were committed to working together on innovative creativity applications.

Google to launch Android One in India today

Google to launch Android One in India
Google will launch the Android One initiative at an event in New Delhi, and also launch the first smartphones. These smartphones have been built by Google’s hardware partners that include domestic smartphone vendors like Micromax, Spice and Karbonn.

Android chief Sundar Pichai first announced Android One at I/O earlier this year and will also be the one initiating the proceedings today. The initiative is Google’s vision of bringing a great Android experience with timely software updates to $100 smartphones. Android One will be first launched in India, and then will be launched globally.

As mentioned above, Google has partnered Micromax, Spice and Karbonn to launch Android One smartphones in the country. The search giant has offered hardware reference designs and software to its partners to come up with the smartphones. Thanks to a leak by Flipkart we know Spice’s smartphone will be called Android One Dream UNO Mi-498 and will feature a 4.5-inch FWVGA display, and 1.3GHz MediaTek quad-core processor paired with 1GB of RAM. Also included will be a 5-megapixel rear camera, 2-megapixel front-facing camera, 4GB internal storage, microSD card slot, and a 1,700mAh battery.

While Micromax and Karbonn have kept their cards close to their chests, their smartphone too will boast similar specifications. As for pricing, the three smartphones will retail in the Rs 6,000 and Rs 7,000 price range.

Google has tied up with online retailers like Flipkart, Snapdeal and Amazon India to sell these smartphones. Micromax will sell its Android One smartphone on Amazon India, Spice on Flipkart and Karbonn on Snapdeal. The smartphones will go on sale on the e-commerce site at 03:30PM today.
These smartphones will be exclusively available on the e-commerce sites for around 15 days, and after that they will also be available on brick and mortar stores.

Google Releases First Android Apps for Chromebooks

Android Apps for Chromebooks

Google announce in the earlier I/O conference meeting the first Android apps for Chromebook have arrived.

Google’s Chrome OS can now run the Vine, Evernote, Duolingo and Sight Words Android apps on their desktops. The project is part of Google’s broader effort to make Android and Chrome OS a more unified experience.

The four apps include language-learning service Duolingo, note-taking app Evernote, video sharing platform Vine, and an app called Sight Words that helps toddlers’ improve their reading skills.

The company says that it will soon be releasing more Android apps that will run on Chrome OS. We bet that Flipboard will be one of the apps that is included in the next batch. Google had demoed the magazine-style reading app running on Chrome OS at I/O earlier this year. “Over the coming months, we’ll be working with a select group of Android developers to add more of your favorite apps so you’ll have a more seamless experience across your Android phone and Chromebook,” the company said in its announcement.

Google has explained that these Android apps are not simply ported to the Chrome OS platform, but instead they have added several features to Chrome OS to make it run Android apps using Native Client. These apps are available on Chrome Web Store and after installation they all show up in the launcher, just like other Chrome apps.

This feature was widely expected, especially when Chrome chief Sundar Pichai took command of Android too. Among many other forthcoming features, Chromebooks will soon display your phone’s notification too, and let you unlock your notebook with your Android device. The divide between PC and mobile continues to blur.
